The Stay Salty canvas was created as an act of quiet resistance and compassion — and as a way to help new stitchers learn the art of needlepoint. At its heart, Stay Salty is a reminder to hold onto your humanity — to “stay salty” — when the world feels cold and cruel. It was designed in response to the harm being done to migrant families and children in Chicago, many of whom are facing hunger, fear, and uncertainty through no fault of their own. The phrase reclaims the idea of salt as something that preserves, protects, and reminds us we still care.
Proceeds from this canvas support The Greater Chicago Food Depository, which feeds families affected by recent SNAP cuts, and ICIRR (Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights), which provides advocacy and direct assistance to immigrants and refugees across the city.
